Giving
“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.”
2 Corinthians 9:7-8
Ways to Give
At First Baptist Delray, there are multiple ways you can give:
1. You can give during the worship service via cash or check.
2. You can mail us a check or setup a recurring bank draft with your bank (ask your bank for details).
3. You can give online at fbcdelray.com/give
Why should I give?
Giving is often misunderstood by so many. Giving to the church is not like paying a bill, because we could never payoff our debt to God. It is not like paying membership dues to a club, because becoming a child of God cannot be bought or maintained by money. It is not about making sure the staff is paid, the light bill gets paid, or the grass gets mowed, though your tithes and offerings do make all those things happen. No, giving is about stewardship, obedience and trust.
Stewardship means that we understand that all of our possessions (money, cars, homes, even our very lives) belong to God and He has entrusted us with them in this life. This means that we are not free to do with them as we please. We submit all of our possessions to God and allow Him to direct the use of them. God wants us to prioritize our lives and finances so that we can give as we should. The money we have is not just for our temporary pleasure, it is for His eternal glory. This is where obedience comes in.
Obedience is important to the life of a believer because Jesus said that “if you love me, you will keep my commands” (John 14:15). If we are truly His we will want to be obedient to Him in all things. God has commanded us to give at least ten percent to the church (Malachi 3:10). But that doesn’t mean that we can do whatever we want with the other ninety percent. Sometimes God asks us to give more. Remember that it is all His anyway. Whatever you decide to give is ultimately between you and God, just remember that God loves a cheerful giver, one who is happy to give all that God commands.
Trust is probably the most important part of giving to God. Because sometimes God asks us to give more than we think we can. We worry about paying bills or living on what is left over. This is part of maturing as a Christ follower. We trust God with our lives, but do we trust Him with our money? When we put it like that, it sounds kind of silly, doesn’t it? But we know that when we look at our bank account and then at our bills, it often doesn’t feel silly, it feels scary. And that’s the point. God wants to show us that we can trust Him.
What happens to the money I give?
When you give to FBC Delray, you are giving to an organization that is committed to both sound financial principles and dedicated to using the funds we receive in a way that honors God and makes a difference in the lives of many people around the world.
Making a Difference
FBC Delray's vision is to make a difference in our community and around the world. We have partnered with a local school and contribute school supplies of many different types to improve the lives of young students in our area. We work in an impoverished area in Jamaica and bring the gospel, supplies and gifts to the local people in an effort to improve lives and give the people hope. Additionally, we partner with the Cooperative Program of the SBC to bring the gospel to countries and people all over the world.
Oversight
All financial contributions are subjected to an oversight process with many checks and balances. No one uses any funds without the knowledge of our stewardship committee and a financial secretary. All expenses must align with our annual budget that undergoes review by a team of volunteers.
